The Rule of Three, or Threefold Law, is a Wiccan concept stating that whatever energy or intention you put forth comes back to you “time three”. First attributed to Gerald Gardner, the Father of Wicca, this is a form of karmic retribution intended to help a practitioner create ethical magical spells.
While it’s a good idea to think ahead as to what your spell might do, many traditional Witchcraft paths don’t subscribe to this school of thought. Instead, they may believe in karma, the payment of coin or some other ethical guideline. The threefold (or tenfold) law is generally used as a form of judgement for those who use hexes or curses in their magic.
