The New Worm Moon: Planting the Seeds of Transformation

The New Worm Moon, the first new moon of the astrological spring, is a time of new beginnings, intention-setting, and preparing for growth. In 2025, this new moon will occur on March 29, 5:00AM MST.  This moment carries a powerful dual energy—the lingering lessons of winter and the fresh stirrings of spring.

Unlike the Dark Moon, which is a time for shadow work and release, the New Moon is the first spark of potential, the blank slate upon which we write our desires. With the Worm Moon’s association with the thawing earth and the return of life, this is the perfect time for planting both physical and spiritual seeds.

The Meaning of the New Worm Moon

The Worm Moon gets its name from the earthworms that emerge as the ground softens, preparing the land for new growth. This mirrors our own emergence from a season of stillness, making this new moon an ideal time for setting intentions, clearing the way for abundance, and aligning with the energy of rebirth.

During the New Worm Moon, we are called to:

• Set clear goals for the season ahead – What do you wish to cultivate  in your life?

• Embrace new opportunities – Say yes to fresh possibilities and  personal growth.

• Align with the cycles of the Earth – Work with the land, plant seeds,  and deepen your connection to nature.

• Charge your energy for renewal – Use this moon as a catalyst for  motivation and forward movement.

While Full Moons bring things to culmination, New Moons offer a chance to begin again—under the Worm Moon, this means shaking off the last remnants of winter and stepping into a period of expansion.

New Worm Moon Ritual: Planting the Seeds of Your Future

Materials Needed:

• A small pot with soil or a garden space

• Seeds (herbs, flowers, or symbolic plants like sunflowers for growth  or basil for abundance)

• A white, green, or brown candle

• A piece of paper & pen

• A bowl of water

• Optional: Crystals like citrine, green aventurine, or moonstone

1. Prepare Your Sacred Space

• Sit in a quiet space, ideally outside or near an open window.

• Light the candle, calling in the energy of renewal and potential.

• Hold the bowl of water and envision it washing away old energy,  making space for new beginnings.

2. Set Your Intentions

• On the piece of paper, write down your goals, dreams, and desires  for the coming season.

• Be specific: What do you wish to grow in your life—whether in love,  career, spirituality, or personal healing?

• Fold the paper and hold it to your heart, charging it with your energy  and vision.

3. Planting Your Intentions

• Place the paper into the soil, symbolizing the planting of your  dreams.

• Plant the seeds on top of the paper, pressing them gently into the  earth.

• Say:

“From the dark, new life shall rise,

Under moonless, fertile skies.

What I plant shall grow and be,

As I will, so mote it be.”

4. Watering & Charging the Seeds

• Pour a small amount of water over the soil, visualizing your  intentions taking root.

• Hold your hands over the plant and whisper:

“Grow with strength, grow with grace,

Blessings flow in time and space.”

5. Closing the Ritual

• Thank the earth, water, fire, and air for their presence.

• Snuff out the candle, knowing the energy of your intentions  continues to grow.

• Keep the planted seeds in a space where you can tend to them, just  as you tend to your dreams.

Other Ways to Honor the New Worm Moon

Physical Renewal

• Spring Clean your home, altar, or sacred space to invite fresh  energy.

• Take a ritual bath with rosemary, chamomile, or lavender to refresh  your spirit.

Earth Magic & Gardening

• Work with the land—even if just by walking barefoot, touching the  soil, or leaving an offering of honey, milk, or herbs to the spirits of  nature.

• If you don’t have a garden, place potted plants near your altar or  windowsill.

Divination & Visioning

• Use tarot, runes, or scrying to ask:

What seeds should I plant in my life? What is ready to grow?

• Journal about your dreams, goals, and the steps you need to take.

Fire Magic for Motivation

• Write a short affirmation on a bay leaf (e.g., “I step into my power”)  and burn it to release your intention into the universe.

The New Worm Moon as a Gateway to Growth

The New Worm Moon is an invitation to step forward into the light, to plant seeds of change, and to embrace the energy of renewal.

Just as the worms beneath the soil prepare the earth for growth, we, too, are called to lay the groundwork for the dreams and intentions we wish to manifest.

So as this New Moon rises in the darkness, ask yourself:

What am I ready to grow? What will I nurture in the months ahead? What new beginnings am I stepping into?

The soil is fertile. The time is now. Plant your future wisely.

Blessed be.
